DENIM
T-SHIRT OAXACAN STYLE
A one-of-a-kind denim t-shirt handmade from denim and finished with colorful textiles and patches sourced in Oaxaca. Designed with a wide, open neckline inspired by traditional Oaxacan silhouettes, this piece reimagines the classic denim shirt into something entirely its own. Each shirt is individually cut, sewn, and embellished by hand, making every piece unique. No two shirts are exactly alike. Patch placement, textile details, and subtle variations in the denim make each garment an original. The patches I sourced while traveling through Mexico. They are from Oaxaca. The colorful, hand-carved folk art figures from Oaxaca are called alebrijes, and they come from artisan villages like San Martin Tilcajete and Arrazola.
Alebrijes: Whimsical, brightly painted sculptures that blend parts of real animals with mythical or dreamlike features. Tonas and Nahuales: In Zapotec indigenous tradition, these figures also tie into the concept of spiritual animal guides or protectors assigned to a person.
Please note: These are handmade garments and may have natural variations in stitching, denim, color, and textile placement. These variations are part of the character of each piece.
