PATCHWORK DENIM OVERCOAT VEST
Patchwork denim overcoat vest. It has two pattern matched hidden pockets on either side of the vest. Fold over collar. The clasps are vintage parachute hardware that have been discontinued. The claps have a quick release mechanism making it very easy to open up the vest. And easily snaps back into place. This is another patchwork project that utilizes all of my scrap pieces of blue denim. As well as using a lot of the smaller spools of thread that I've accumulated. Giving it a quite colorful facade. This overcoat vest is quite heavy but all the weight of it is supported by the shoulders. And this is a perfect statement piece for anyone trying to stand out. This overcoat vest is for a woman but I didn't have a model. So if a man wants to wear it; a man can wear it.
At first I wasn't sure what this project was going to be. I thought that I would make a really cute skirt and make it a cute wrap skirt. But that quickly changed because I didn't like the dimensionality of how the skirt was turning out. Then I went through my grandmother's denim clothing that I inherited from her after she passed. And I found a vest that had never been worn with the tags still on it. So I decided to take that apart and use that as my template. Then elongated every single piece and created an overcoat vest. That actually ended up being perfect because of the sizing of the textile that I was creating. And I was able to utilize the majority of the textile that I had made. Say this is one of the thickest pieces that I've ever sewn. And it was quite a challenge but I made it work.
