THREAD JACKET

THREAD JACKET

One-of-one · 2025

The Thread Jacket began with bags of scrap thread I had saved for years. As part of an ongoing effort to exhaust every material in my studio—scraps included—I realized I had accumulated enough thread to construct an entire jacket.

I used reclaimed black denim from jeans collected from my aunts as the foundation, reinforcing it with interfacing for structure. Working slowly with a zigzag stitch, I secured the loose thread to the surface without allowing it to bind beneath the presser foot. I let intuition determine which bag came next and continued until every saved strand had been used.

The finished jacket is unexpectedly soft, flexible, and tactile. Layers of overlapping color create a dense, painterly surface. The interior is lined with patchworked fabric scraps from the studio, selected to echo the colors of the thread.

The jacket is finished with a six-button front, buttoned cuffs, and two pattern-matched hidden side pockets. It is a one-of-one wearable artwork built entirely from the remnants of earlier projects.
