TIC Coat No. 01 is the first coat in Addison Stonestreet’s TIC series, a body of work that transforms his lived experience with Tourette syndrome into wearable art. Through repetition, texture, and language, the piece makes tics visible while creating a point of connection with the Tourette community.
The coat is constructed from reclaimed burlap coffee sacks gifted by Addison’s aunt. Rather than covering the sacks’ existing imagery, he worked directly with it. Yellow embroidery emphasizes the halo surrounding a printed religious figure, while purple stitching creates borders, stars, and a cross. Raised yarn lettering across the back reads “TOURETTE’S IS CONTAGIOUS,” using a deliberately provocative phrase to confront misconceptions and invite conversation.
The front is covered with the word “TIC” repeated in neon embroidery. Each stitched mark represents the individual expression of a tic, accumulating across the garment until the available embroidery floss was exhausted.
Inside, four pairs of denim jeans from Addison’s great-aunt were patchworked to form the lining. The original waistbands become visual and structural accents, while existing jean pockets are repurposed as interior pockets. Nine large black four-hole buttons complete the coat.

PROCESS & CONSTRUCTION
Process photographs document the coat’s construction from reclaimed burlap coffee sacks, including the neon hand embroidery, raised yarn lettering, pattern cutting, patchworked denim lining, repurposed pockets, and final button placement.
